Innovation and connection in the Bush

Across Australia your support is helping to bring creative ideas to life so more children, young people and their families can discover life and their place in God’s big story.

As the end of this financial year draws near, we’re inviting our SU Australia family of supporters to help keep this vital work going – and growing – to impact more communities with God’s love, life and purpose.

You’ll be supporting the rural communities where passionate Christian workers live and serve. SU Australia Remote Worker, Rachel Borneman serves Northern Territory communities along the Central Arnhem Highway including Weemol and Bulman.

Serving as a Wycliffe Bible Translator, seconded to SU Australia, Rachel is working with Aboriginal Christian leaders to engage Indigenous children and young people with the Bible in fun, creative ways.

In many of the remote communities where Rachel serves, including Weemol and Bulman, English is limited and resources in the local dialect are lacking to support the faith needs of the communities.

Rachel and Aboriginal Christian leaders have been developing Bible resources in Kriol, to grow young people in their faith, as they connect with God and share their enthusiasm through new media platforms.

While these beginnings are encouraging, including the running of SU camps for over 10 years, Rachel knows much more support is needed on the ground to reach these communities.

“I’m grateful to be able to serve in this capacity, and it’s such a blessing to see the children and church leaders connecting with their faith. But more ongoing support is certainly needed to help resource our communities, as Aboriginal Christians want help with their young people,” says Rachel.

“We need to continue to provide opportunities for fun, safe, discipling adventure experiences for young people, as they build relationships with God.”

“It is great working with Scripture Union with their young people and camp focus. I am looking forward to working with the support of a national SU movement, my hope and prayer is we can do even more to reach the communities here.”
